Bio Picture Barrett Tasky
Bass/Guitar/Keyboard/Vocal Instructor

Lifelong musician, proficient (stage/recording quality) on 12+ instruments, and audio engineer. Barrett's always been focused on music and sound since he was 3 and began his journey on piano. Classically trained, Barrett then turned his attention to horns (baritone, trombone, tuba) then strings (upright bass, electric bass, guitar) in orchestra, band, and jazz environs. Knowing his limitations as a 'jack of all trades' musician, Barrett needed more knowledge of the field to know how he could develop himself as a viable asset for employment by labels, studios, production houses/venues, and bands. He turned his attention to sound, sound design, critical listening, studio design, tape and computer recording, and live sound reinforcement. After years of working for one of the nation's top live music buyers, Barrett refocused his goal towards his own music; developing a band, beginning work in studios, and freelancing in live venues as an audio engineer and stagehand. Currently, Barrett has clients that cover all aspect of the music industry - a label, developing artists, a podcast company, running a studio, studio engineer, hired musician, producer, arranger, composer and music instructor.  Name drop?  He has worked for or played with Jack Johnson, Prince, Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar, Jim Peterik, Chicago, Keller Williams, David Gray, Radiohead, 311, No Doubt, and James Brown, among others.  The highlight of his music career is still the priviledge of playing George Harrison's Magical Mystery Tour guitar with Rick Nielson of Cheap Trick.

Bio Picture Ian Wilson
Keyboard/Vocal Instructor

Ian Wilson has been at School of Rock Chicago since January 2009, teaching keyboards and voice, directing summer camps and waxing poetic (literally) about lyrics & music theory in the SoR Studio Songwriting program.

As a solo loop artist, Ian belongs to a new class of singer-songwriters who have exchanged backup bands for loop pedals. Using a combination of piano, keyboards, and synthesizers, he builds complex, atmospheric layers around deeply lyrical songwriting. Despite defecting from the classical world years ago, Ian’s piano has never quite lost the accent—an aesthetic influence similar to other classically-deviant loop artists like Andrew Bird, Owen Pallett, and Zoe Keating. His latest release, This is Water (2012), received the Albert P. Weisman Award at Columbia College Chicago, where Ian is earning a master’s degree in music and artistic management.

Ian has worked with a number of other songwriters, composers, and performing arts organizations around Chicago, including the orchestral-pop sextet Canasta. Ian’s two-year stint in the band culminated in its sophomore release, The Fakeout, the Tease and the Breather (2010), which was received with a wave of critical superlatives including “one of the best Chicago albums of the year” (Matt Pais, Chicago Red Eye) and “so perfect…that you’ll swear you’ve heard it before” (Monica Kendrick, Chicago Reader).

If he is ever shipwrecked on an island, please send: The Moon and Antarctica (Modest Mouse), Boys for Pele (Tori Amos), OK Computer (Radiohead), and Homogenic (Bjork)... and maybe some food and water.

Bio Picture Sean Briskey
Guitar/Bass Instructor

Sean Briskey was surprised with a guitar at the age of 11 by his father and has not looked back since.  Beginning with a year or two of lessons in blues and classic rock, Sean quickly gained an ear and a love for multiple styles of music.  While most guitarists in high school are discovering Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and the Beatles, Sean found himself doing quite the opposite.  His first band Lobster Newberg was an original progressive rock outfit, playing complex songs with odd meters and meandering passages.  Drawing influences from the likes of King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Yes, and Frank Zappa, Sean co-wrote and recorded his first album when he was just 16.  As his musical taste grew, so did his motivation to learn more.  He joined his high school's jazz band and began learning the art of improvisation.  By the time he was a senior in high school, he had performed at many notable venues and even shared shows with bands such as The Alan Parsons Project and The Ides Of March.  After just one semester of college, Sean switched his history major to music after realizing where his true passion was.  Studying under Chicago jazz giants Kyle Asche, Pat Fleming, Anthony Molinaro, and Victor Garcia, he gained a tight grasp on music theory and multiple genres/styles.  Sean has experience teaching players of all ages/skill levels and aspires to see his students succeed and have a blast while doing so.  Currently with a bachelor's degree in music/jazz guitar from Loyola University Chicago, Sean gigs frequently around the Chicagoland area while teaching at the Glen Ellyn and Chicago School of Rock locations.

Katie was classically trained in piano and voice and has taught voice and keyboard for eight years along with directing self - written musicals for children’s theatre.
